What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do
Some time ago, I had reached my breaking point, and the only question on my mind was, “what do I do now that I do not know what to do?” Odd question, right?
If you’ve never had to ask yourself this kind of question, it’s okay. But if you have in the past, I hope you finally found the answers that you needed to make it through.
Well, let me tell you what I eventually did. I poured out my heart to God and told Him exactly how I felt. I told Him I needed clarity for life, and I wasn’t even kidding. If He doesn’t guide me through, I know I’ll be a bigger mess.
I lay quietly on my bed with tears clouding my eyes as God kept reminding me of some of the scriptures I had read many years ago.
In particular, He reminded me of my dad and how he had taught us that no matter what we face in life, we should never feel too ashamed to “run” to God.
Dad would always say if Jesus is in the boat with you, you’ll make it to the other side no matter how stormy the weather gets.
One of his favorite verses in the Bible was Luke 8:24 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
“And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.”
Jesus had told His disciples, “…Let us go over unto the other side of the lake..” Luke 8:22. While the journey was on, the Master fell asleep, and a storm arose that tried to hinder the journey.
I like how the disciples realized they were helpless yet smart enough to run to Jesus and tell him exactly how they felt. The Master then goes on to show us an amazing principle about life — He rebuked the wind and the raging of the water.
You see, I had found the answer! Once I had identified the challenges, I knew the next thing to do was to open my mouth and speak to the storms. I took my stand on God’s word and proclaimed it boldly.
I commanded the storms in my mind to come to a halt. I spoke God’s word over my business and declared that I’d be anxious for nothing, for the Lord is my Help.
He said in Isaiah 41: 13, “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
And in Isaiah 41:10 ESV, He again said,
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Friends, it’s your turn. Are there circumstances you want to declare God’s word over? Chin up, square your shoulder, and address the storms of life with the word of God on your lips… And there will be a great calm.
